First, email me and let me know you're interested. Give me an idea of what is involved, and let me know if you have any particular deadlines, and I'll let you know what my time frame will be for getting to your work. While I work quickly, I also have far more on my plate than editing alone, so letting me know ahead of time is going to work to your advantage, as I'm happy to schedule up to six months in advance.
Once we've agreed on what services you'd like, email me your manuscript as a Word document. I'll use Track Changes, and include any additional notes that are relevant at the end of the document; you will then have the option to accept or decline my suggestions and changes.
Please note that I will not do erotica, the occult or horror. Period.
All services require a 50% deposit before I begin, with the second half due upon receipt of the edited work.
What I offer:
A Sample Edit - You'll want to ensure you're going to like my editing style; I will want to ensure your manuscript is ready for editing, and that I'll be a good fit for your manuscript. I'll be happy to edit, for free, five to ten pages of your manuscript.
Carol's Corrections - I primarily do line editing. That means I'm doing more than a basic proof-read, because I'll catch plot inconsistencies, poor word choices, and awkward phrasing. Once you've had several beta readers go through your manuscript, and after you're bleary-eyed from doing your own editing and know it's as polished as you're able to get it, that's when I step in to do the final polish. If your book still needs substantive work, that's a different category, and is available only when I have a break in my usual copy-edit schedule.
Carol's Catches - This is proofreading, and is intended to be the final look-through a book before you call it done, and declare it ready for the public. It's not a substitute for good editing, and only available when someone else has already done a professional job of editing it.
